The Google Adopt A Start Up is a programme dedicated to accelerating the growth of Irish start ups. The programme provides skill based mentoring to high-potential early stage Irish companies, helping them structure for scale. Every company receives 12 weeks intensive hands-on mentoring from Google experts, and access to exclusive lectures and workshops at Googles EMEA HQ in Dublin. The 2017 cohort of 30 companies, including Campsited, were chosen from over 100 applicants nationwide. Campsited made the final 8 after a competitive semi-final pitch, and went on to take second spot in the Grand Finale. An achievement they are very proud of!

A brief intro on Campsited

Campsited is an easy way for people to book campsites. Today there is no easy way to book every campsite around the world. If you want to book a hotel, self stay or hostel, there are a multitude of easy to use websites you can use to book your trip. This isn’t the case for camping. So Campsited decided to fix the problem. 

We spoke to Finán from Campsited about why they decided to apply…

We decided to apply for the Google Adopt A Start Up Programme because we knew that we could benefit greatly from the expertise of the Google mentors. No one knows digital marketing better, so it was a no brainer for us to throw our hat in the ring. We also spoke to a couple of other companies who were on the programme last year and they recommended it to us.

What you gained from your experience? 

We got stuck straight in and took full advantage of the fantastic resources available through the programme. We validated our numbers, growth approach, and the potential for Campsited. Our mentors Fatima, David and Stephanie, worked tirelessly to help us. The lectures and insights picked up over the course of the 12 weeks were invaluable. Overall we now know much more about the market, and how effective and profitable we can be in it.

In the Grand Final pitch, we used the knowledge gained during the programme, to outline our growth plan to 2020. It was ambitious, but 100% achievable. The judges liked what they saw, and were delighted to walk away with the gong for second spot. The cheque for €5,000 worth of Ad Words will come in very handy too! 

Why should others apply? 

Other companies should apply because it’s very much tailored to each companies specific needs. As part of the application process you set out the things you need help with. Google then find people internally who specialise in these things, and they become your mentors for the duration of the programme. It’s not confined to digital marketing either. If you need help making your website responsive, or you want to improve the user experience of your product, that can all be done too. 

What’s next for Campsited? 

The next stage for Campsited is to grow it’s presence in the UK and begin building it’s presence on the continent. Plans for this are well underway.
